Lately I was thinking about how much place classical music takes in our lives, and came to conclusion that somewhat more than we are used to think. As I am a touring pianist and piano educator myself, you may think of my opinion as anything but unbiased, however what I’m pointing at is what classical music – at least the most characteristic its pieces, – is featured on many films, including some of my favorites, such as 2001: A Space Odyssey and La vita è bella.
Talking about the latter, it was this movie that has aroused my interest towards this blisful opera, Tales of Hoffmann. It is not the part of my repertoire – in concert I am playing solo works solely, – however I play certain pieces for my own enjoyment too, and Tales of Hoffman is one such. Scintille, diamant is my favorite part of it and I sincerely recommend it to pianists and opera singers at every opportunity. Thanks for the score!
